Buff Bradley (winning co-owner and trainer of The Player)

“We thought he would go a mile and an eighth, and today he showed it. You never know until you get down there and do it. Calvin (Borel) rode him perfectly. Turning for home, we felt like we were going to win it.”

Calvin Borel (winning rider)

“I had a good trip. He left there running. I was right where I wanted to be at all times. I kinda smooched at him (to encourage him) around the turn. If I could just get my horse to go on and finish, I knew he could run. The mile and an eighth (distance of the race) kinda scared me, but he showed us today he can do it.”

Robby Albarado (rider of runner-up Neolithic)

“He handled (the slop) well. I had a great trip. He relaxed good up front, (and when) they came to him he put in some effort but just got outrun today.”

Brian Hernandez Jr. (rider of third-place finisher McCraken)

“We had a great trip. Our horse ran big. First time against older horses, he stepped up and ran a good third. We have to be proud of him. He handled the mud great.”

Ian Wilkes (trainer of McCraken)

“It was a good race, very encouraging (off the layoff). If he had not run (at least) third, I would have been disappointed. I am happy with his performance.”

Wilkes said McCraken is scheduled to make his next start in the Nov. 24 Clark (G1) at Churchill Downs.
